Expanding Mental Health Care to Underserved Communities

The CareNet counseling network is pleased to announce they are a recipient of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust (KBR) Tier One Grant. This $184,000, two-year grant will allow CareNet to help expand mental health care to communities that have psychological and economic profiles of Tier One economic levels. Poverty level, uninsured residents and general at-risk populations identify Tier One communities.

CareNet hopes to focus particular care to uninsured and underserved citizens in target counties around North Carolina including Bladen, Columbus, Robeson, Scotland, Surry, Wilkes and Anson counties.

Begun in July 2011, this grant is part of the ongoing emphasis of CareNet to provide care to those in our state who have difficulty accessing mental health services due to financial hardship. CareNet is looking to provide and expand 3,000 hours of mental health care.  There is a significant commitment on the part of the local CareNet boards to raise funds to sustain care after the grant ends in June of 2013.

Whiteville, NC, is the first site to launch through this grant. CareNet is in the process of hiring clinicians in Surry County as well.

This is the third KBR grant CareNet has received.
